You are given one life to live. It is absolutely unique to you. How can you live it in such a way that the world will be better because of it? This is the question Max Lucado sets out to answer in his book “Outlive Your Life.” Lucado, in his uniquely pastoral style, takes a look at biblical characters, anecdotes, and true stories about modern day people to see what it looks like for you and me, common people, to outlive our life.
I have read several of Lucado’s books and I like his style. He is a genuine pastor. That is, he cares deeply for people and encourages them to go deeper, reach farther, and try harder than they are currently. This book was no exception. “Outlive Your Life” is Lucado’s take on how all of us can address social justice issues in a real and personal way.
The book is well written. It masterfully weaves stories from the Bible with other stories and illustrations to drive home his point. The chapters are short but powerful and the issues are real and complex. This book does not offer easy fixes or theoretical solutions. Instead, Lucado demonstrates how even small, well placed efforts can make big differences in a person’s life.
I really liked this book. It is not difficult to understand but the message is profound. I was encouraged to live a life that matters. Outliving your life means doing the best with what you have to make a difference in the lives of others. That is what I want to do.
